Best LUSH products for backpackers

I worked in LUSH as a Christmas temp and whenever this trip came up, people would rave about the products and how they were so useful for travelling. As a LUSH devotee there was no way I was going to leave my routine at home anyway, but what better chance to put all of it through its paces and see if it really does live up to the hype. So here we go!

1. Jason and the Argan Oil Shampoo Bar

I tell anyone who will listen that this shampoo bar is the best thing that’s ever happened to my hair. As a bottle blonde, I devote huge amounts of time to researching and trying products that don’t a) make my hair frizzy and b) leave it feeling soft and manageable and this delivers on both fronts. I’ve tried pretty much every high-end shampoo going, and none of them have left my hair with the soft, silky, just-walked-out-of-the-salon feeling that this does.  It contains 20% less SLS than the other LUSH shampoo bars, purely because of the huge proportion of argan oil in it, which is the reason it makes my hair so smooth. And it makes my hair smell like roses for days after I’ve washed it.

Why is it so good for travelling? These last for between 60-80 washes and weigh around a tenth of an equivalent bottle of shampoo. As well as taming the frizz in more humid climates.

2. Sugar Daddy-O Solid Conditioner

My other hair essential. Contains huge amounts of cocoa and shea butter for that conditioning hit, as well as toning down brassy shades in my hair. As a solid you can take it in your carry on, and like the shampoo bar it’s much lighter than a bottle of conditioner. Bonus- you can run it over your legs and use it instead of shaving foam. Two products in one! Or three if you count using it as a leave-in conditioner (I do).

3. Aquamarina Facial Cleanser

I love the LUSH cleansers. This one is great for oily skin- absorbs the excess but still super gentle and leaves my skin feeling super soft and hydrated.

4. Enzymion Facial Moisturiser

I took one of these in my carry on and just moisturised constantly. The air-con on the plane, central heating and zero sleep were not kind to my skin but I managed to look semi-awake when I collected my bags on the other side thanks to this. A mid-to-light moisturiser which sinks in pretty much instantly and doesn’t leave a greasy layer on my face.

5. FOMO Jelly Face Mask

I feel like the jelly masks from LUSH are so underrated. I wanted to take a face mask to look after my skin while I was away but obviously the fresh ones aren’t that practical as they have a three week use-by date and need to be kept in the fridge. FOMO is the perfect pair for Aquamarina- great for oily skin and really mattifying, but again doesn’t dry out my skin and leaves it so incredibly soft and smooth. After a shower and ten minutes with this when I arrived at my Airbnb, I felt fresh as a daisy.

6. Outback Mate soap

One of the prettiest soaps going, and smells great to boot. Eucalyptus, peppermint and lemongrass give it a really zingy, uplifting scent, and also help to repel insects. My skin also feels SO SOFT after using this.

These products are all palm oil FREE, and of course not tested on animals. They’ll save so much space in your rucksack- but really they’re great in any country!
